Ear cleaning is performed to remove excess ear wax that may cause hearing blockage, ear fullness, ringing in the ear or discomfort. The procedure is often done endoscopically, allowing the doctor to clearly visualize the ear canal while cleaning.
Wax may be removed using gentle suction, irrigation wash, or fine instruments (probing) depending on the type and consistency of the wax. It is a safe and quick procedure that usually gives immediate relief in hearing and ear discomfort.
Patients are advised not to use cotton buds or insert objects into the ear as this can push wax deeper.
